Automatic Search Suggestions

Automatic Search Suggestions can be helpful in some situations and should be ignored in others.

Useful Case

When you know a part of a title it can be very useful. But if you get a part of the title wrong, then the results will be inaccurate.

Sample Search: How to Write a Sentence: and How to Read One by Stanley Fish.

Type in the part you know of the title and the suggestion option works great and saves typing. This example uses “Write a Sente” just select the correct suggestion and you get the results (Arrow down and hit Return (for keyboardists) or Click on the suggestion you want (for mousers)).

Not Useful For, But Still Works

But if you know the author’s last name and part of the title, the suggestion function will not work. The suggestions function will only work within one area either author, title, subject, genre, publisher or general notes. In this case (typing in the author’s last name and part of the title) just hit the “Return” key or click the “Anywhere” button and it will display the results. In this case the Automatic Search Suggestion did not help but the resulting search still worked.

Good Luck with the new “Automatic Search Suggestion” function, it can be helpful in some situations.
