Story Walk: I'm So Glad You're Here

Celebrate National Library Week April 19-25, 2026, with the theme “Find Your Joy” and Honorary Chair Mychal Threets! Take a walk down Grand Ave to see the story walk of the brand new book, I'm So Glad You're Here by Mychal Threets on the library lawn.  Dubbed "the Internet's librarian"— and now host of the relaunched Reading Rainbow — Mychal Threets invites all to take a look and find themselves at the library! Perfect for little readers who are regular visitors and those who might be stepping into the stacks for the first time.Welcome to the library! It’s a place just for you! There are activities, movies, games, and SO. MANY. STORIES. Best of all, it’s a place where you will always belong. Take a tour of the library with the internet’s favorite librarian, Mychal Threets! This heartwarming debut picture book from Mychal extends an invitation to anyone who could use a little library joy and a reminder that libraries are for everyone. The Librarians Screening

In recognition of National Library Week, join us for a free screening of the award-winning PBS documentary The Librarians on Wednesday, April 23 at Inventors Brewpub in Port Washington. Doors will open at 6:00 p.m. and the film will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a runtime of 85 minutes. The Librarians documentary follows librarians across the country as they are confronted by rising efforts to remove books from library shelves. Set against the backdrop of unprecedented censorship in states such as Texas and Florida, the film highlights the important role libraries and library professionals play in protecting intellectual freedom and ensuring access to information. Following the screening, there will be a brief discussion panel featuring local librarians who will reflect on the themes of the film and share perspectives from our own communities. Sensory Playtime

Specially geared for children who have a variety of diagnoses including (but not limited to) autism, sensory processing disorder, ADD/ADHD, intellectual or developmental disabilities and their caregivers, but open to all youth (under 13 years old) of all ability levels. Our sensory playtime program is set up as a variety of tactile, sensory activity stations that children are free to explore with their caregiver. Each month is a different theme. Stations may include shaving cream, sand, water, and/or food items. Dress to make a mess! March - WindApril - NatureMay - Bugs Research shows sensory play supports children in their brain development, language development, gross and fine motor skills, as well as improving their ability to socially interact.Stop by for a little while or stay the whole time.
